About James
My name is James Schlittler, Critter Getter’s second-generation owner and operator since 2001. My expertise comes from 30-plus years of solving critter issues in Monterey County. Critter Getter passes along that extensive experience to you in the form of thorough and comprehensive solutions with guaranteed and lasting results. You receive highly personalized service, which includes clearly explaining the reason for your critter infestation and exactly how the problem will be remedied.
Before the business was passed on to me, I spent two years at the Academy of Art College in San Francisco—I’m passionate about the visual arts. I’m a connoisseur of music who enjoys mountain biking, being with my family, and sculpting in my free time. It’s my pleasure to serve you!
How It All Started
My father, Ron Schlittler, saw an unmet need in the community. Home, business, and property owners were at a loss regarding handling critters invading their space. With a desire to help people solve these pesky problems, my father and I launched the original Critter Getter in 1992. As his partner, I was by his side, solving the region's critter problems.

I remember knocking on the doors of homeowners in Pacific Grove and handing out flyers—printed on dot matrix, Daisy Wheel printer paper—highlighting our newly offered services. The reaction was very much a “mixed bag.” Some folks looked at us as if we were absolutely crazy. Others responded with eyes wide open in surprise as if we were genius because they had been experiencing critter problems at that exact moment!
Over the years, Critter Getter has honed its techniques and tactics into what I believe to be somewhat of an art form. I continue to research and implement new, open, and evolving tactics to offer more efficient, affordable, and accommodating services to everyone involved—including the critters themselves.
